After three consecutive successful years, Nendaz is pleased to welcome once again the freeriders in need of thrills and sensations for its 2010 edition. Quickly book the following dates for days full of emotion in our company : from the 12th to the 17th of March 2010 (15^th to 17^th of March are reserve days in case of bad weather conditions).

Riders will be able to register for the competition as from the 1st of January 2010.

The Nendaz Freeride change in 2010!

Sunday 14 March 2009 will see the unwinding of the Nendaz Freeride.

The best worldwide riders will compete for the first prize and for the wild-card for the Verbier Xtreme in one single run on the mythical slopes of Mont-Gond.

Our spectators will be able to enjoy the competition from the village hosting the finals at the foot of Mont-Gond or at the Plan du Fou restaurant.

The selection criteria are defined in the rules. In case of bad weather, the competition may be postponed to the 15-16-17 March.

The Open Nendaz Freeride will take place during the whole day of Saturday 13th March and is open to the best riders to qualify for the Nendaz Freeride of the next day. 

Open Nendaz Freeride

This new competition will be held on Saturday 13th of March 2010 (depending on weather conditions). Participants will be able to compete for 2 to 4 runs on different spots.

Each participant must do 2 runs of his/her choice during the day. The total of the 2 scores obtained will be considered for the final ranking.

Pictures of the slopes will be published on the website the week preceding the competition. The best riders of the Open Nendaz Freeride shall be automatically qualified to participate in the next day event (Nendaz Freeride)

The following criteria will be used to select between 100 to 150 riders:

1. Riders present in the FWR (Freeride World Ranking) 2009 who are not yet qualified for the Nendaz Freeride (by ranking order).
2. Best riders of two swiss freeride competitions : Zinal Freeride (ranking 2009) and Morgins Free Session (ranking 2010). The following riders will be selected : 3 first ski riders, 2 first snowboarders, 1st female ski rider and 1st female snowboarder (*)
3. Wild card given to the organizers on the following basis :
   • Participation in the finals of a freeride swiss or international competition
   • Participation in the qualifications of a swiss or international freeride competition
   • Recommendation from a sponsor justifying his/her riding
   • Submission of pictures or videos providing evidence of his/her skills at the following address : info@nendazfreeride.ch

The starting lists (Open Nendaz Freeride and Nendaz Freeride) will be published on the 15th of February on the website.

Riders on the starting list must pay their registration fees before the 22th of February to be definitely accepted to the contest.

Candidates will be briefed on the race on the morning of the competition at the Plan du Fou. This briefing will be made by the organizers of the Nendaz Freeride and the Head of security of the event. Every participant present at the briefing will have to conform to the instructions given by the Nendaz Freeride staff.  

Once the briefing is over, the riders may go at the foot of the slopes to make an appreciation of the reliefs and choose their line. The first riders willing to go for their run may do so half an hour after the end of the briefing.

Banners and flags of sponsors will indicate the starting point of the race. Participants will have to go see the starters indicating the number they are wearing. Before giving the signal for the beginning of the race to the member of the jury at the foot of the slopes, the starters will ensure that the riders have the compulsory equipment

Results of the Open Nendaz Freeride and the list of the riders selected for the Nendaz Freeride will be published on Saturday evening.

Should the weather conditions be against us, the Open Nendaz Freeride will be cancelled. The organizers reserve the rights to distribute supplementary wild cards for the following Nendaz Freeride.

Nendaz Freeride

The Nendaz Freeride will be held on Sunday 14th of March 2010 on the Mont-Gond slopes.

60 riders will be selected (depending on the conditions) based on the following criteria:

1. Riders of the FWT 2010 ranking
2. 30 riders from the Freeride World Ranking (FWR) 2009 : 17 skiers, 7 male snowboarders, 4 female ski riders and 2 female snowboarders. The riders will be chosen in the same order as in the FWR (*).
3. 20 riders from the Open Nendaz Freeride : 11 skiers, 5 snowboarders, 3 female skiers and 1 female snowboarder (*).
4. Wild cards granted by the organizers.

(*) The allocation in the different categories are proportional to the number of registrations in each category of the Nendaz Freeride 2009.

Candidates will be briefed on the race on the moring of the competition at the Plan du Fou. This briefing will be made by the organizers of the Nendaz Freeride and the Head of security of the event. Every participant present at the Briefing will have to conform to the instructions given by the Nendaz Freeride staff. After the briefing, candidates will go by foot to the summit of Mont-Gond.  

A prize of CHF 5,000 (proportional to the number of subscriptions in each category) will be distributed during the 2010 Nendaz Freeride. Prizes from our sponsors totalling CHF 8,000.- will be given to all the finalists.

In case of bad weather, the Nendaz Freeride may be put off to the 15, 16 or 17 March 2010.

Points FWR

Open Nendaz Freeride and Nendaz Freeride allow riders to win points for the Freeride World Ranking. The ranking of Nendaz Freeride will be completed with the participant of the Open Nendaz Freeride. 

Every riders of both competition will receive FWR points !!

We wish to bring to your attention that, other than during the competition, the slopes are not secured and our partner Télénendaz highly advises riders againts going there. Those who nevertheless wish to go, do so at their own risk and liability.

The Nendaz Freeride is a non-profit association. Eventual returns generated during the competition are wholly and totally reinvested back into the contest.
