Contest program
After six consecutive successful years, Nendaz is pleased to welcome once again the freeriders in need of thrills and sensations for its 2013 edition. Quickly book the following dates : from the 15th to the 19th of March 2013 (15th, 18th and 19th of March are reserve days in case of bad weather conditions).
Riders will be able to register for the competition as from middle of January 2013 on the FWQ website.
The Nendaz Freeride will be held on two days, the first for Day 1 and the second for Day 2 (final).
The best worldwide riders will compete for the first prize and the FWQ points (3* competition) in one single run on the mythical slopes of Mont-Gond.
Our spectators will be able to enjoy the competition from the village hosting the finals at the foot of Mont-Gond or at the Plan du Fou restaurant.
The selection criteria are defined below. In case of bad weather, the competition may be advanced to 15 March or postponed to the 18-19 March.
The Day 1 will take place during the whole day of Saturday 16th March and is mandatory for all the riders in order to qualify for the final of the next day.
Day 1
Participants will be able to compete for 2 runs on different spots. The total of the 2 scores obtained will be considered for the final ranking.
Pictures of the slopes will be published on the website the week preceding the competition. The best riders of the Day 1 are qualified for Day 2 (final).
The following criteria will be used to select between 100 to 150 riders:
- Riders present in the seeding list FWQ (new Freeride World Ranking) 2012 (by ranking order).
- Best riders of the Dahu Bruson Freeride (ranking 2012). The first rider of each category will be selected.
- 5 Wild cards given to the organizers
The starting list will be published 15 days before the competition. The riders will be officially retained after receipt of the registration fee. If the entry fee is not paid within the time allowed, the place is given to the following in the seeding list.
Candidates will be briefed on the race on the morning of the competition. This briefing will be made by the organizers of the Nendaz Freeride and the Head of security of the event. Every participant present at the briefing will have to conform to the instructions given by the Nendaz Freeride staff.
The day before the competition, the riders may go at the foot of the slopes to make an appreciation of the reliefs and choose their line.
Banners and flags of sponsors will indicate the starting point of the race. Participants will have to go see the starters indicating the number they are wearing. Before giving the signal for the beginning of the race to the member of the jury at the foot of the slopes, the starters will ensure that the riders have the compulsory equipment
Results of the Day 1 and the list of the riders selected for Day 2 will be published on Saturday evening.
Should the weather conditions be against us, the Day 1 can be cancelled. The organizers reserve the rights to qualify the first riders of the seeding-list for the final.
Day 2 (final)
The final will be held on Sunday (if weather permits) on the Mont-Gond slopes.
Depending on the weather, about 60 riders will be selected based on the outcome of the Day 1, the proportion of riders in each category will be the same qualifications (proportional to the number of entries in each category).
Candidates will be briefed on the race on the morning of the competition. This briefing will be made by the organizers of the Nendaz Freeride and the Head of security of the event. Every participant present at the Briefing will have to conform to the instructions given by the Nendaz Freeride staff. After the briefing, candidates will go by foot to the summit of Mont-Gond.
Registration fees for the Nendaz Freeride
The registration fee for competition is 85 € + 37€ of international insurance. The following elements are included :
- Skipass during the competition
- International individual insurance covering up to 1'500'000 € of medical costs
- Prize-money of EUR. 5000.- (proportional to the number of subscriptions in each category) will be shared out for riders of each podium of the Nendaz Freeride.
Normal refunds will only be made with a proof of a medical certificate. However, if the competition is cancelled due to the bad weather, there will be no refund.
Points FWQ
Open Nendaz Freeride and Nendaz Freeride allow riders to win points for the Freeride World Ranking. The ranking of the final will be completed with the participant of the qualifications.
Every riders of both competition will receive FWQ points.
We wish to bring to your attention that, other than during the competition, the slopes are not secured and our partner Télénendaz highly advises riders againts going there. Those who nevertheless wish to go, do so at their own risk and liability.
The Nendaz Freeride is a non-profit association. Eventual returns generated during the competition are wholly and totally reinvested back into the contest.
